Teaching has always played a substantial role in Leon's career, and over the past decade he has built a wealth of experience working with students of all ages and abilities. He is passionate about helping students develop a secure technical foundation while encouraging them to discover their own musical voice, confidence, and individuality.
While studying at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, Leon taught violin and piano at the Golden Lane Community Centre, where he enjoyed seeing his students grow both musically and personally. After graduating, he was selected for the Guildhall Young Artists (GYA) Programme, which supports and mentors young teachers as they begin their professional careers.
Leon has also been closely involved in Guildhall’s partnership with Carnegie Hall through the Carnegie Hall Link Up Programme. This inspiring initiative introduces primary-school children to orchestral music by placing them at the heart of the experience. Rather than simply listening, participants perform alongside professional musicians and feel the excitement of making music together. Leon supported Nicola Benedetti Foundation ambassador Rachael Cooper in delivering workshops across a number of schools and assisted during the concert performances.
In addition to his teaching work, Leon is leader of the Odyssey Festival Orchestra, where he contributes to the orchestra’s growing education programme by helping to deliver workshops exploring upcoming repertoire and composers.
Leon currently teaches violin and piano privately and works regularly as a depping peripatetic teacher at Haberdashers’ Aske’s Borough Academy and will start at Hatcham College in April. He offers private lessons both in person and online via Zoom, and is always happy to discuss the most suitable arrangement for each student.
